<p>Every internet marketer is seeking a good search engine placement.</p>
<p>What does search engine placement mean?</p>
<p>When someone wants to find something on the internet, they will almost invariably turn to a search engine. They will type in a word or phrase which may or may not accurately reflect what they are really looking for, and the search engine will provide them with a list of pages which contain that word, phrase, or relevant information. This list can hold thousands or even several million websites. Search engine placement simply means where you are on that list.</p>
<p>I think that even without a deep knowledge of related subjects such as search engine optimization, search engine submission, and search engine ranking you would probably agree that optimum search engine placement should be somewhere near the top of that list. In fact, you would be right. Most people who conduct a search on a search engine are going to primarily visit a site (or sites) from the first page of results&#8230;if they visit a site at all. In fact, they will probably be more likely to visit one of the first five sites, and even more likely to visit one of the first three sites on that list. This makes it very obvious that where your site is placed, your search engine placement, can be crucial to the success of your internet business.</p>
<p>Now, here&#8217;s a statement of my opinion based on several years of internet marketing and a lot of study on the subject.</p>
<p>If you can in afford it, pay a professional search engine optimization and submission service to handle this for you!</p>
<p>Okay, so I do all of search engine optimization, submission, and website design myself!</p>
<p>I&#8217;m funny that way. I&#8217;m also retired and have a good income coming in from my internet businesses and can afford to be eccentric about this. You may use the words bullheaded or stupid if you desire. I have learned some techniques that have helped me to become successful in internet marketing, and, for me, the fun is not just making the money, but the process itself. I taught myself basic website design and search engine optimization techniques, and managed to put together a package that works for me. However, along the way, I spent a lot of money on the wrong things, and went down a lot of back alleys that wound up going no where before I learned what I know now. I cannot teach you all that I have learned in just a few words, or even in a few days. You will either have to learn pretty much the way I learned, paying your dues both in time and money, or you will take that money and hand it to a professional who can in a few weeks get you to the spot where I am after nearly eight years of learning in the internet school of hard knocks.</p>
<p>If you want to secure a good search engine placement for your internet business website, you are going to have to learn many things. Just to name a few, there are:</p>
<p>*Selection of a product, preferably a niche product</p>
<p>*Selection and registration of a URL</p>
<p>*Acquiring web hosting for your website</p>
<p>*Designing the website</p>
<p>*Optimizing the website for top search engine placement and ranking</p>
<p>*Submission of your website, including allowing for all the quirks of various search engines and directories.</p>
<p>*Keeping track of changes in search engine algorithms and altering your website in order to keep up.</p>
<p>*Keeping track of your competition and staying abreast of new optimization and marketing techniques</p>
<p>Okay, I don&#8217;t want to discourage you, but as you can see, you don&#8217;t just sign up for an internet business, tell a couple of friends, and submit the site the company provided you to a couple of search engines and then sit back and wait for the money to roll in.</p>
<p>Both running a business, even something as seemingly ethereal as an internet business, is real work if you wish to be successful, and so is the process of achieving a good search engine placement.</p>
<p>Now, go to a search engine and search for articles on search engine optimization, search engine marketing, search engine submission, search engine ranking, and search engine placement. That ought to get you started. Don&#8217;t read the ads, read the articles. Spend some time learning the subject, and then decide whether you can really do it yourself or if you should hire somebody to do it.</p>

<p>Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is the process which  will enable you to rank for a particular phrase in the search engines.  Little known is the deep impact of this process, which in part is why  most people do not simply go ahead and learn SEO themselves. Personally,  I think that an understanding of the process is an essential skill to  anyone who wants to make it online, as such, I keep myself trained up in  this skill. However, as most of us are quick to outsource such work,  how are we able to compete in our niche if we have no understanding of  what it is that we are competing against?</p>
<p>You see, one of the  fundamentals of website optimisation is understanding the difference  between specific keywords. There is a broad phrase keyword, which is  more related to a broad niche and is more generalised, then there is the  much more narrow alternative which is the long tail variation.</p>
<p>In  comparison with the keyword &#8220;dog training&#8221;, an example may be &#8220;How to  train my dog to sit&#8221;. Longer tail variations such as these will almost  always be easier to rank for, and as a side benefit, will attract  traffic that is much more in need of the content that you are providing.</p>
<p>Another  keyword that I have not spoken of just yet is the buying phrase. Much  like a salesperson would qualify customers in a store before investing  time in trying to sell them an item, a buying phrase is a search term  that may indicate that a searcher is in fact looking to, or is ready to  purchase.</p>
<p>A good example of this may be the keyword &#8220;Audio  Applications&#8221;. Whilst the user may be looking for a wide range of  applications, they are not sold on the exact application that they are  after just yet. However, if someone is searching for a specific  application, then they will search using that specific search term. This  is a clearer indication that they are in fact ready to buy.</p>
<p>Having  read through the above examples, it should now be clear to you why it  is that you need to learn SEO. Without an understanding of even so much  as the basics, it is all to easy to rank for any search term just for  the sake of bringing in traffic. The ability to bring in qualified  traffic is essential if you want to convert visitors to paying clients,  or even see visitors take up those affiliate offers that you may be  promoting. In as simple terms as possible, without the ability to  attract targeted traffic, your efforts may very well be futile.</p>
<p>To  conclude, most people learn SEO through a trial and error process.  Personally, I took a handful of courses to learn what it is that I know  today, however, the majority if what it is that I practice today is  through trial and error, and in particular, through implementation. And  this is where I will lead this article out. Learning is a huge part of  SEO, however, learning really doesn&#8217;t mean anything unless you  implement.</p>
